October 2022

Hello everyone!

The beginning of our robotics season is going strong and we are excited to share our progress with you all. As always, thank you for continuing to support and follow Roses and Rivets!

For the hardware team, the main focus has been on designing and constructing a linear slider. This mechanism allows the robot to smoothly and steadily carry cones directly up, and is much more stable compared to other types of arms. Hardware has also been working to alter and improve the chassis, the main base of the robot, from last year.

On the other side of things, software has been using encoders, small devices that track how far a motor has rotated, to precisely measure robot movements. Software has also gotten a color sensor. With this, the robot can read the color of objects around it, and use that to orient itself around the playing field and figure out where it needs to go. Both the encoders and the sensors will be really helpful during the autonomous period, which is when the robot is moving solely based on precoded instructions.

Anne Jumper, the Head of Branding, has also been working hard to revamp our logo design and website. The new website should be launched by next month!

Thank you all again for your continued support!
